Shenandoah National Park & DC!

Every year in September we take a weekend road trip to a new city/state. For the past few years we have been to Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and tons of cities in those states. Instead of heading up to the New England area, this year we did something a little different. We drove down to the closest national park near us (5 hours), Shenandoah National Park, in Virginia. My boyfriend and I love the outdoors and wanted to take advantage of our weekend getaway by adding another national park to our list. We stayed in the COZIEST cabin right outside Shenandoah! Ugh i swear you can find the perfect places to stay on Airbnb. The cabin was for 3 people with a small loft bed that you had to climb a ladder to get too. It was on a beautiful farm with chickens and horses. The host was incredibly sweet and even offered breakfast to us!

We did a shortish hike Saturday morning because we wanted to get to DC on the earlier side. The hike was short but all of it was incline so it was a great workout. The views from the top were incredible. I love getting to the top of the mountain and just taking in the beauty of nature and how awesome our God is. I love hiking with my boyfriend because we spend a few hours just us with no cell phone signal, having the deepest conversations about life, love, and everything in between.

After our hike, we drove back to the DC area and had lunch at the infamous Nandos! A little history about our fav spot. My best friend Aileen had told me to eat here after when I went to England for the first time last year. My boyfriend and I fell in love with their incredible Piri Piri chicken (also had it in Portugal which was mind blowing). Well anyways everytime were in England, were counting down the hours till were back at Nandos. I was so happy to see that they are a few in the DC area!!!

We checked into our cozy airbnb in Old Alexandria. If you haven’t visited the Alexandria area of Virginia, you are missing out! It is the cutest small town with tons of restaurant and shops right on the water! We got ready for our special dinner reservation for the birthday boy. We ate at an increbile restaurant called Virtue Feed and Grain. I loved everything about this restaurant from the decor to the amazing food. We got seated in a cozy table where we were able to close a curtain and be a bit secluded from the other people. We enjoyed some incredible steak and made our way into one of the ice cream shops in town before calling it an early night.

Sunday morning consisted of an amazing breakfast at Founding Farmers. Amazing brunch place with the BEST coffee we have ever had! Totally recommend this place if your in the DC area. We went to a touristy watermelon wall that I had seen on another blog and of course I wanted to take a photo there! We drove to Georgetown where we spent a few hours walking and shopping around! Another great spot to eat and shop in the DC area.

It was an incredible weekend away with the love of my life. Nothing better than spending the weekend away from life and really getting to spend quality time together! We may or may not be planning another weekend away sometime soon. AS FOR MY NEXT TRIP: i just booked an incredible trip for christmas with my sister! Of course you’ll have to stay tuned to see exactly where we are headed but just know it’s two new cities! We are so excited and already counting down the days! Hope y’all enjoyed this post and have inspired you to book either a short weekend getaway or a trip over seas.
