One Month In, Forever To Go

Can’t believe that it has been one month since the hubby and I have tied the knot. We’ve constantly gone back and forth saying “ is this real life?!” haha. We have been together for 11 years (read our story here) and we’ve been talking about this day since the first month of “talking”. It’s honestly a dream come true and such a blessing to be married to my best friend (if you know our story you know our relationship has come a LONG way & is FAR from perfect). We are hoping to celebrate with our big wedding soon with family and friends ( read about our covid wedding here)!

So lets talk about the big M word: MARRIAGE. Let me begin by saying that it is SO MUCH FUN. We’re pretty much playing house and just being real '“adults” now. I’ve lived alone before but this is all new to him. So it’s been fun figuring out how to live within the same space, food shopping, laundry schedule, chores, and just marriage in general. Even though it’s only been one month, I have to say things have been pretty amazing (or in dans words “really exciting”).

It’s just like having a sleepover with your favorite person every night haha. We both work long days so it’s so nice to come and just relax together. He secretly enjoys my obsession with tiktok and my silly jokes. We eat amazing food and eat waaaay to much dessert. We love spending our weekend together and having lazy mornings. He makes the best French omelette and I look forward to our Saturday mornings for that.

Home chores have been interesting for us haha. We both hate cleaning and are the worlds messiest people but so proud of us on how well we’ve been keeping everything. We’re trying to figure out what laundry days work best for both of us and which one of us is gonna vacuum this weekend while the other mops. I kinda enjoy cleaning my own house now especially with the new Dyson vacuum we got (totally worth it for anyone debating whether or not to get one). We’ve gotten into the groove of who’s cleaning what but it’s nice having someone to procrastinate cleaning with haha.

When I was living with my roommate, some of my dinners would be eggs and what ever else I had in the fridge haha. Now it’s about planning ahead and coming up with a weekly menu which I enjoy doing. Luckily Dan has been home earlier than me and has cooked pretty much every dinner (definitely the best husband). We love trying new foods to cook and we both enjoy cooking together and it has been so much fun cooking recipes that have become a weekly staple.

Our home has finally come together and the boxes have disappeared. When it comes to furniture, there is still a lot of things we need to figure out. Dan and I have both different styles when it comes to home furniture. He loves mid century modern and I love the modern farmhouse style. So it’s been fun trying to figure out how we can get both compromise on our different taste. Plus building a home together has been super fun. Like I said it’s really like when we were kids and would play house (aka my favorite game to play)

With being together for so many years, we’ve both learned years ago when we combined our finances what each of strengths and weakness are. This has helped us a tremendous amount when it comes to deciding major decisions. For example, my weakness is money management. I love spending money and was never a fan of saving. But planning for the future and coming together as one has really shifted my mindset when it comes to money. Now I am still not the best with money but that is one of my husbands strength. He’s the one who does our budget for the week, month, and year. See where I am getting at there?

Even though our first month has been amazing, I know things won’t always be this way. One thing I always keep in mind is that him and I are a team. Any problem we face, we face together, him and I vs the problem. I read that in one of my bible study books years ago and it something that has helped our relationship grow so much. This is something we’ve both been working on together for a long time and it has really changed the way we see any problems we face.

I hope you enjoyed my marriage recap and little words of wisdom. Marriage is amazing but what makes it the best is the person who I have by my side. I know it won’t always be rainbows and butterfly’s but I know that with God in our relationship, we can get through anything. We are also so thankful to our amazing family and friends who have showed us so much love and support in the last month. I can’t wait to keep you guys updated on life and marriage so stay tuned!
